Food Bank

Earlier this month Hardisty families received a call from Mr Steenwinkel, outlining the different ways Hardisty School is reaching out to the greater community.

Parents and students may have noticed a lot of Food Bank boxes at the main entrance. Every year, these boxes are filled to the brim with all sorts of food, thanks to the generous donations of students, parents and Hardisty staff.

In this season of giving, please consider a generous donation to the Food Bank boxes this Christmas.

Did you know that the Edmonton Food Bank was also Canada's first food bank, and that 40% of Food Bank users in Edmonton are children ?

Below are a few links to help you with your donation:

Logos and Community students attended Chapel and Assembly in late November to hear speakers from the Food Bank. Grade 8-4 Student Khyia summarised the Chapel from November:

For November’s chapel we had the privilege to have a guest
speaker, by the name of Mrs. Wendy Poirier. Mrs Poirier was a
former teacher of Hardisty school and she came to advise and
explain her hard work and effort for the Edmonton's homeless
shelter.

She educated us on all the people that come every day
and how much food they provide generously from their heart for
each family. They consistently get new people and never seem to
fail to satisfy these homeless people. On top of that, they welcome
them and bring them in, no strings attached.

Mrs Poirier mentioned a prayer she once heard in church and it really spoke to her heart
and the prayer stated:

“May you see the face of Christ in everyone
you meet, and may everyone you meet
see the face of Christ in
you.”

Which was an miraculous statement that probably spoke to
many hearts in the room. It was an incredible experience for young
believers such as ourselves and to stand up for what we believe in.
Also, it really pushes us to see a difference in others and for others
to see a difference in you, which is very significant because you
should be radiating with the face of Christ through your actions,
words and thoughts.

Compassion Child Service Project

Our students are so generous! Aaron Bender did a wonderful job writing about the service project involving all the Junior High Logos classes.

Compassion Child Hardisty 7-4, 8-4, 9-4

After attending a John Bauer concert organized by the Logos Society,
8-4 felt drawn towards sponsoring a compassion child. 7-4 and 9-4 were also
enthusiastic about the idea and joined in. Students from all classes organized
a bake sale that earned us $547 towards the cause. We further researched the
idea and found a child that had been without a sponsor for 422 days! We all
agreed it was time for this girl to experience the love of God through our
work, and Djamilatou Beogo became our sponsor.

Djamilatou Beogo was born on February 6, 2006. She lives in the
landlocked country of Burkina Faso, a country in West Africa with her
parents. Most of the homes in this area are simple and made of cement floors,
brick walls and tin roofs. Djamilatou does what she can for her household,
frequently running errands for her parents. Her favorite activity is to play
group games. She attends school and also regularly Bible class where she
learns about God and prays for people like us, someone that can change her
life, and the lives of her village.

We are really excited to see this girl grow spiritually and physically,
through the care and nutrients we are supporting her with. We will keep you
posted on her progress and please take the time to include her and her family
in your prayers.
