LOGOS SOCIETY - Notice of Annual General Meeting

Dear Logos Family,

The Edmonton Logos Society will be holding the Annual General Meeting. The meeting will be at 6:30pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Youngstown School, 10330 - 163 street.

Why Should I Attend the AGM?

You will have an opportunity to direct the vision of the Logos Program in our schools! By participating at this meeting, the Logos Society will continue to thrive and remain an active partner in the development and maintenance of the Logos Program.

 How can I vote?

All Logos society members are eleible to vote in person at the AGM. A membership register will be available at the meeting, if you are unsure of your membership status. If you have not yet paid your membership fee, memberships will be available at the door. Yearly fees are $20 per family.

Why is becoming a member of the Logos Society so important?

Your membership fees will go towards funding events like the Chapel that was held at the beginning of this school year, updated print materials, to support the Logos website, and will help open doors for our Logos teachers to receieve the resources and in-services they need.

Who are the Logos Society Board Members?

We are blessed to have the following new board members:

President    Andre Paul    Youngstown    3 year term
Vice-President    Miranda Lee    Hardisty     2 year term
Treasurer    Paula Mitchell    Hardisty    3 year term
Secretary    Heather Pheasey    Hardisty    3 year term
Director    David Funk    Queen Alexandra    2 year term
Director    Tracy Klassen    Youngstown/Britannia    1 year term
Director    Robert Litschel    Past President    1 year term

Our children have such a unique opportunity to receive Christian teaching in our public schools, to reflect the Light of Christ to their classmates, teachers and other members of their school community. The Logos Society was responsible for setting up this program in the schools, and needs to be supported through an active, vibrant society.

Let's show Edmonton Public how much we value the program, by supporting the Society! We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Operation Christmas Child

At today's chapel, students learned about Operation Christmas Child and how a simple shoebox filled with school supplies, little toys and some hygiene items can bring joy and hope to children.

Your child should have received some forms with more information about the program, and what items are most appreciated. Please consider donating filled shoeboxes for this wonderful service project. This small gesture truly means a world of difference to the children that receive these boxes.

h

Students are encouraged to talk about this service project at home, and to consider filling a shoebox or two (or more!) for children across the world.

Picture Retakes!

Did your kid wear the same shirt as last year for picture day?

Don't fret! You get another chance on Tuesday.

Lifetouch Retakes are scheduled for Tuesday October 14.

Did you know you can order them online? Check out Lifetouch.ca for more details.

Edmonton Public Schools District Recognition awards

The school board is accepting nominations! (DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 15)

From the EPSB Website:

WHO TO NOMINATE

Do you know a parent, community member, secondary student or a staff member who is deserving of special recognition for their contributions to the District during the 2013-2014 school year?

Individuals are recognized for professional and volunteer services or outstanding achievement or exemplary performance.
Teams are recognized for contributions and achieving significant goals through collaboration.
Perhaps they have been a part of an incredible initiative, project or program. Maybe they’ve gone above and beyond to provide innovative resources and supports, or guided and mentored students in their learning and experience success. Whatever the case, if you feel they have contributed to the betterment of the District, let us know. We look forward to hearing about all the great things happening in our District again this year.

Read more about it here.

Community Outreach - Join us to help plan a Community Christmas Dinner!

INVITATION TO HELP PLAN A COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS DINNER

We would like to invite parents from the Logos program at Hardisty to join us in planning a Community Christmas Dinner.   The dinner is being planned by many of the churches in the area (specifically Capilano Christian Assembly, Edmonton South 7th Day Adventist Church, Grace United, Hope Lutheran, Ottewell Christian Reform Church, Mount Carmel Bible College, St. Augustine’s Anglican, and St. Michael’s Resurrection).  It is very exciting for the churches in our community to be working together to plan a community event that all are welcome at.

The next planning meeting is on Thursday, October 9 from 9 – 10am in the Hardisty School Staff room and we would love to also have the Hardisty Logos program join us in our planning.

The Hardisty Ministerial Community Christmas Dinner is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 13 at Hardisty School from 4:30 – 6:30pm. The event will include children’s activities, a traditional turkey Christmas meal, and some Christmas carolling.   We would like to focus on inviting those in our community who live alone and also those who are in need.   We are also hopeful that other members of the community will also attend.   The Christmas meal will be free to those who attend with our group paying for the meal using a grant provided from the City of Edmonton and donations from local businesses.

If you have any questions about the Hardisty Ministerial Community Christmas Dinner please contact Jenny Samm at 780-435-6328 or jsamm@telus.net.
